This parable of the laborers in the vineyard sounds paradoxical. Why would a farmer hire people at different times of day and then pay them all equally? In today’s world it could be considered as discrimination or injustice to some employees.

Economically, however, Jesus was thinking completely differently. He asks his disciples to think in some way like God thinks. God is more interested in mercy than a fair wage. God in his mercy is truly noble and generous! How often we fail, we continue doing something that is incorrect, we have wrong desires or attitudes. And yet, God always gives us his reward - the kingdom of God as the reward.
